Jerry M

Jerry M is a veteran Hunslet saddle tank steam engine built for the Dinorwic slate quarries near Llanberis in North Wales.

I am writing to say thank you on behalf of the residents of Galsworthy Nursing Home for a most enjoyable day we spent with you. Many thanks for all your co-operation and help throughout the day.

Julie Nicholls

Hunslet 0-4-0ST Mills class locomotive, No. 638, Jerry M, was built in 1895 at the Hunslet Engine Works, Leeds, for the Dinorwic slate quarries near Llanberis in North Wales.

She was originally named Vaenol, but was later given the name of an Epsom Derby winner belonging to the quarry owners. Jerry M, and sister loco Cackler, were the largest narrow gauge locos in the world's second largest slate quarry. Jerry M was acquired by Hollycombe in 1967 when the quarry closed and entered service in 1984 in a blue livery following a long rebuild at Hollycombe. Since 2007, it has carried its original Dinorwic livery.
