Sun Set No.2

Burrell Gold Medal Tractor, No. 3815. Registration BP 5757.

A great day out - kids loved it, thanks.

Woodford Family, Southampton

Built at Thetford in Norfolk in 1919 by Charles Burrell & Son, Sun Set No.2 is the mainstay of Hollycombe's traction engine-hauled trailer rides.

She was new to AE Johnson of Pulborough, Sussex, and subsquently J Harris & Sons showmen of Ashington, and a variety of other owners before finally coming to Hollycombe in 1951. It was the founder engine of the collection and is probably the hardest worked engine in preservation.

She was mainly employed on road haulage along the south coast and to London, but latter in her working life also did a little threshing.

Burrell's Gold Medal Tractors entered an RAC competition in 1909 for the best steam haulage tractor of the period, winning the RAC Gold Medal, hence their name.
