26th & 27th July 2008

Roll Up! Roll Up! It’s All the Fun of the Fair at our first ever Fairground Extravaganza event which will be held over the weekend of 26th & 27th July.

Come and enjoy our traditional steam powered fairground and for your added enjoyment for one weekend only enjoy the fun and laughter of the Cakewalk ride, as we have visiting, Bishtons c1907 Brooklyn cakewalk.

It is hoped that over the course of the weekend the cakewalk will be powered by the visiting Burrell showman’s engine “Princess Marina”

The cakewalk will join the other resident rides that form the unique working traditional Edwardian Steam Fairground including rides such as the only surviving Razzle Dazzle (regarded as the world’s first ‘White Knuckle’ ride), the late 1870s Mr. Fields Steam Circus dobby ride (believed to be the oldest surviving mechanically driven ride) and the 1911 single steam yacht ‘Neptune’.

Other attractions to the event will include a selection of sideshows in the fairground (small charges apply), a fairground model display as well as a display of fairground archive photos including historic photographs of the Hollycombe rides. There will also be a display of fairground showman’s living vans & transport.

To add to the atmosphere the event is combined with the Mechanical Organ Gathering which was held at Hollycombe for the first time last season. There will be a wide selection of visiting organs covering all scales and manufacturers playing a wide repertoire of tunes for your enjoyment.

Making its first appearance at a UK event we are delighted to welcome Paul Kirrages 78 keyless model 36b fairground concert organ to Hollycombe.

Other organs include the 89 key Marenghi of Goff Radcliff, Mike Mitchells 89 key Van De Broek, Ray Bryant’s 69 keyless Dean “Charlotte Rose” and the 46 key Marenghi of Richard Evans. There will also be a number of smaller scale organs and hand turned ones attending over the course of the weekend.

All this plus all the normal attractions its fun for the whole family!
