It’s a Magical Bank Holiday Weekend at Hollycombe!

  • 28th April 2017

We always look forward to the start of May as its bluebell season, when the woodland carpet at Hollycombe becomes a sea of blue. You don’t have to do lots of walking to appreciate the bluebells either, as you get a great view of the display from the comfort of the Quarry Railway. The scent of the bluebells mixed with steam is an irresistible combination for some!

You might also want to put your feet up and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Bioscope which opens for the first time this season on Sunday & Bank Holiday Monday. Special Magic Lantern Shows which thrilled the Victorians remind us of a more innocent and bygone age, yet they still have the power to fascinate and amaze. Look out for the humorous songs especially written to accompany the performances!

Hollycombe will also resonate to the sound of organ music, the perfect background accompaniment to the highly recommended woodland walk below the Fairground to enjoy the Romantic View.  You’ll pass rhododendrons and azaleas in full flower – a full palette of spring colours, as bright as the painted fairground rides themselves!

And if all of this fresh air and heady scents leaves you feeling hungry, don’t forget we will have delicious and good value meals and ice creams available in the cafeteria and shop. Enjoy the Bank Holiday Weekend, and remember, all paying visitors to Hollycombe can use their entrance tickets to return as many times free for one year, including our special events!
