Children's days are extra special for the younger members of the family. As well as the usual fairground and railway attractions, additional children's activities are provided. Subject to volunteer availability, we will aim to run as many of our children's rides as possible and hopefully two locos will be in steam on the miniature railway. The additional activities will be varied on different days to provide more variety for returning visitors. The current planned line up for 2008 is as below, with all the additional activities included in the standard admission price:

A gathering of a wide range of commercial vehicles.
Magic Lanterns were the first devices used to project images onto a screen or wall. The display at Hollycombe will include original Magic Lanterns and very early images.
The focus is on as much railway activity as possible, visiting model railways and visiting locos on the narrow gauge and/or miniature railway. Activities such as goods trains and double heading may also be operated if practical.
On the Narrow Gauge Railway we intend to run service using our resident Hunslet, Jerry M, with Palmerston visiting from the Ffestiniog Railway and another surprise visitor. On the Standard Gauge, we hope to have the ex Cadeby Peckett and on the Miniature Railway we will be seeing a visit from a railbus and tram engine and hopefully some other visitors as well as our residents; Jennifer, Tess & Bob.
Live steam model railways of various gauges will also be operating in the large indoor facility.

Special educational days for schools, providing the opportunity for schools to have an educational day out and enjoy themselves at the same time. Children will see many attractions from the Edwardian age, see the development of Steam Power, Road and Rail Transport. More details are available on our Schools Page or click on the Schools Button in the menu bar to the left of the screen.

This will be the biggest event of the year at Hollycombe with many visiting road engines and possibly some visiting rail locos as well. We will also operate as much as possible of our own steam attractions.

For more photos from previous years, please see the Festival of Steam Page
Experience the atmosphere of the steam fair by night on one of our special open evenings. These evenings are great fun and rides are colourfully illuminated offering interesting photographic opportunities.
A separate reduced admission price applies to these evenings.
