Historic Commercial Vehicle Rally and ‘Teddy time’ on Sat 11 and Sun 12 August at Hollycombe!
Hollycombe Steam in the Country is gearing up for one of its busiest weekends of the year, when it welcomes members of the Historic Commercial Vehicles Association for their 60th anniversary get-together and rally on Sat 11 and Sun 12 August.
Visitors will be able to admire a collection of over 70 vehicles, including vintage lorries, buses and small vans, together with displays and merchandise and sales stands. Vehicles will be displayed on both the Saturday and Sunday. Organiser Frazer Clayton is looking forward to the gathering: ‘The HCVA was the first club for commercial vehicles, and our vehicle owners can’t wait to meet visitors and explain the history of the club and vehicles displayed. We will have vehicles travelling from the south-east and further afield, including from Bristol and the Midlands. The weather is set fair and it’s set to be a great weekend!’
And if you go down to the woods at Hollycombe on Sunday 12 August, you’re sure of a big surprise! That’s because the Liphook steam attraction will be holding its annual Teddy Bears’ Day Out, with lots going on around the site. Visitors can take the Quarry Railway, but should keep a watchful eye out for teddy bears hiding in the woods! There will be a ‘Teddy Trail’ to follow and the staging of a Magic Show during the afternoon. The event promises to be the perfect day out for grandparents, parents and young children. Older children will have much to look forward to across the weekend, with Hollycombe home to the world’s first white-knuckle ride, the Razzle Dazzle, and famous ‘Big Wheel’, which offers fabulous views over the South Downs National Park. Other steam rides include the recently restored Steam Boat and Gallopers, and with perennial favourites the Hall of Mirrors, Austin Cars and Chair-o-Planes, Hollycombe offers an enjoyable stroll down Memory Lane. Hollycombe will open on both days at 11am, with steam rides from 12.30pm. Admission to Hollycombe is £16 adults; £14 seniors or £12 child, with family saver tickets available, offering unlimited rides on the Fairground. Tickets entitle complimentary return visits to Hollycombe on open days for one year, with Hollycombe open Tuesday – Sundays until 27 August (including Bank Holiday Monday) between 11am - 5pm. Return visits include the popular ‘Fairground at Night’ and ‘Halloween Fairground at Night’ events, staged on Saturday evenings from 15 September to 20 October.
